Richard P. Collins, a 72-year-old man from the Great Neck area of Ipswich, drowned on Wednesday, July 26 in the area of the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club's mooring area, located at 124 N. Ridge Road, according to the Ipswich Police Department.

Workers at the yacht club spotted a person in the Plum Island Sound and police were notified around 3 p.m.

Police launched their marine unit and found the man, quickly bringing him back to shore. First responders performed CPR and other lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead after being transported to Beverly Hospital.

Collins appeared to have been swimming at Clark Beach in Ipswich, police say.

The death appears to be accidental, police say, but is under investigation by the Ipswich Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives attached to the Essex District Attorney's Office.
